eating my heart

December 28, 2021

530am here. Been up with an active baby since 4. The other night it was 3-5am before she fell back asleep. Other nights on this trip it’s been up every other hour averaging out all the kids taking turns to wake.

very envious that men get to *decide* to stay up late- to watch shows, play chess online compulsively, keep updated on NFL to the minute. That sleeping in the mornings is an option too. Tonight, I am so envious that it’s bitter.

He is tired
I am tired
Can I make it any more obvious?
He’s a pilot
I take care of kids
What more can I say?
He waves bye to me
I’d never tell
Secretly i want flight as well
But all of my skills
Suck up to the pits
I’d have a problem with his F16

He was a fighter boy
She said, “See you later, boy”
He was as sleep deprived as her
She had a haggard face
But her head was up in space
She needed to come back down to earth

Five years from now
She sits at home
Feeding the baby, she’s all alone
She turns on IG
Guess who she sees
Fighter boy rockin’ up F16
She calls up her friends
They already know
And they’ve got tickets to see his airshow
She tags along
And stands in the crowd
Looks up at the man that she married

He was a fighter boy
She said, “See you later, boy”
He was as sleep deprived as her
Now he’s a super star
Slammin’ on his airbrakes
Does your haggard face see what he’s worth?

He was a fighter boy
She said, “See you later, boy”
He was as sleep deprived as her
Now he’s a super star
Slammin’ on his airbrakes
Does your haggard face see what he’s worth?

Sorry, girl, you cannot fly
Well, tough, luck you’re a housewife now
You are more than just good friends
This is how the story ends
Too bad then you could just dream
Of a constant good night’s sleep
There is more that meets the eye
Now your kids are grown up right

He’s just a boy
And I’m just a girl
Can I make it any more obvious?
We are in love
Haven’t you heard
How we rock each other’s world

I’m with the fighter boy
I said, “See you later, boy”
We were once so sleep deprived
I’ll be at the primary school
Getting the kids from school
then laundry homework and all that

I’m with the skater boy
I said, “See you later, boy”
I’ll be running errands all of today

I’ll be waiting in lines
Singing the song i wrote
About a life we used to know

A few days ago-

me (a little upset): why did you set your alarm to ring at 6am??

him: because I wanted to get up in the morning to help you with the boys and school prep, but didn’t know what time you get up

me: oh. *melts inside 100%

(after awhile)

: eh then why you eventually never help

him: because I fell back asleep and didn’t hear you get up!

.

interlude. (ft. the firstborn at bedtime)

firstborn: mama, tomorrow when I go to the backyard, I’ll take chalk and draw a heart for you, to show I love you, that’s how I show I love you

me: *melts in the dark

.

Last night-

husband: ok so tomorrow what time you waking up?

me: usually 630

him: ok wake me up I help you

this morning- I oversleep and chaos ensues, but somehow they’re out of the door at 750am, meimei and I waving goodbye from the window. By which I mean I am holding up her hand in a waving motion while she looks at the ground at whatever colourful toy is distracting her.

So anyway, this waking up early and sacrifice of sleep is likely the most romantic gesture of our marriage (couples with young children category). Awards to be given out when the category is concluded in idk, 5 years’ time, when all the little people are independent poop wipers, neat feeders, helpers of dishes, laundry, and clothes dressers. Oh man what have we gotten ourselves into.

p.s. if you’re reading this, hi mister foo thanks for loving me and iloveyoutoo
